Geldenhuys Genealogy

From Albert Barend Gildenhuizen (1661) to date – 2010

Although this is mainly about the Geldenhuys’e that settled in the Kroonstad / Bothaville areas of the Free State, it includes numerous other families who have contacted the author.

This genealogy listing covering 12 generations during the past 350 years is perhaps the most comprehensive ‘Geldenhuys’ listing yet published.

The manuscript is currently available in CD electronic format (at R100 + P&P), and runs to 260 pages in A4 format (draft A5 sized prints have also proved very readable), approx 133000 words. Popular demand seems to favour the larger A4 size, but with Print-on-Demand (POD), the smaller sized A5 book is also possible. An attempt is being made to insert an Index.

The manuscript is arranged in four main sections:-

  • Introduction, Stamregister, name changes, notorious personalities, places of interest, general comments and Vergelegen owners.
  • Chronological history – with brief mention of the Anglo-Boer War, World War II East African Campaign and the Rhodesian War.
  • Dictionary of names – alphabetical order with some passport sized photographs {this section takes up 108 pages – half the book}.
  • Geldenhuys genealogy listing, heading the main intermarriages, such as the Botha, Bouwer, Brink, Coetzer, De Waal, Dippenaar, Estment, Gerber,  Jelley, Howard,  Le Roux, Lotter, Malan, Moodie, Odendaal, Preller, Schickerling, Sinton, Van Aardt, Venter and Whiteley marriages.

Publication date of December 2010 is anticipated for this Fourth Edition. See link www.pey.co.za for updates.
